President Claudia Sheinbaum presented new agricultural programs in a press conference with the goal of supporting the production of food consumed by Mexicans and reducing poverty. One of the programs is 'Harvesting Sovereignty', which aims to increase the production of beans, corn, onion, tomato, chili, and rice in places like León, Guanajuato, Durango, Hermosillo, and Campeche.
In Chihuahua, the construction of 14 collection centers for milk is planned, which currently costs 6.50 pesos per liter. The installation of a Well-Being bean producer is also anticipated in Zacatecas with high-quality seeds, support for Nayarit and Durango, as well as for states in the north and southeast.
In the conference, President Sheinbaum mentioned the importance of the judicial power reform, emphasizing that it will be historical and an example for the country. Additionally, it is proposed to promote sustainable livestock farming in Chiapas, Tabasco, and Campeche, with the cost of the basic food basket ranging from 979.00 to 883.00 pesos in different areas of the country.
On the other hand, Cesar Iván Escalante Ruiz, head of Profeco, presented the section 'Who is who in prices', highlighting the stores where the cost of the basic food basket is highest. The objective is to ensure the economic well-being of the population by presenting weekly the prices of the basic food basket in different establishments and other goods and services.
Furthermore, it is expected to benefit 60,000 livestock farmers and strengthen Liconsa with the creation of a milk pasteurization plant in Campeche. 1,200 municipalities with high levels of poverty were identified to support small and medium producers, providing credits, technical assistance, and insurance to face droughts and pests, as well as promoting self-sufficiency in bean production and improvements in the genetic quality of animals.
