INE Prepares Budget for 2025 Elections

The National Electoral Institute (INE) plans to allocate a precautionary budget of 13 billion 205 million 143 thousand 620 pesos to organize the elections for members of the Judiciary in the coming dates. This preliminary figure, which must be finalized before October 31, is slightly lower than the base budget of 13 billion 255 million pesos requested from the Chamber of Deputies for general expenses, including the election of judges, funding for political parties, and popular consultations.

During a session, the President Counselor of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, acknowledged the progress in preparing the budget profile for the year 2025 and highlighted the documentary support of all the concepts included in the project. Despite the circulation of figures regarding total spending on electoral functions and judicial reform for the coming year, the president of the Temporary Budget Commission 2025, Uuc-kib Espadas, committed to following the established approval process without the participation of political parties.

Of the proposed budget, 69.3% will be allocated to cover the payroll of the electoral body, which currently has around 20 thousand workers. A 3.3% increase is expected to cope with projected inflation. On the other hand, funding for the election of ministers, magistrates, and judges is expected to be higher than that authorized for the previous federal election. Relevant items include allocations for the Electoral Training Directorate, the Electoral Organization Directorate, and the Administration Directorate.

In another session, the Temporary Budget Commission 2025 discussed the details for the operation of the INE in the coming year, with a budget request of 27 billion 270 million pesos. Despite discussions and the need to clarify some aspects, the approval process is expected to proceed as established.
