Pemex to Revamp Fiscal Regime for Financial Stability

The state-owned company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), is working on a new fiscal regime that ensures its contribution to public finances while recognizing the company's current situation. This was stated by Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, CEO of Pemex, during a press conference with investors.

Rodríguez Padilla noted that various actions will be implemented to achieve this objective, such as cost reduction, revenue increase, subsidy cancellation, debt restructuring, and adaptation of the fiscal regime to the new reality of the company. He highlighted that this new scheme will strengthen Pemex's financial position without neglecting its contribution to public coffers or compromising energy security.

Regarding the recently approved energy reform, the Pemex director admitted that the legal framework of the company will undergo significant changes. Pemex will move towards a transformation in which efficiency, profitability, social benefit, and environmental care will prevail, becoming a public company. Despite this transformation, Pemex will maintain its acquired debt commitments and will fulfill its financial obligations.

In the coming months, Pemex will present the National Energy Plan of the Government of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Private sector participation is expected in exploration and production activities to share risks and complement knowledge and technologies. Additionally, clear rules will be established to guarantee an equitable distribution of risks and benefits between Pemex and third parties.

In the medium and long term, Pemex Energía will emerge, a subsidiary of the company dedicated to energy generation, which will expand its operations in the field of clean energies. Pemex seeks to diversify its project portfolio with the support of the private initiative, gradually integrating renewable electricity, green hydrogen, ammonia, synthetic fuels, and strategic materials.
