The possible increase in the Airport Use Fee (TUA) announced by the Pacific Airport Group (GAP) has raised concerns in the organizations of the air transport industry. The TUA is an additional charge added to the cost of airline tickets to cover the use of airport facilities.
In light of this situation, destinations like Guadalajara, Tijuana, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Guanajuato, Hermosillo, among others, could be particularly affected, as they are operated by GAP. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the National Chamber of Air Transport (CANAERO) have expressed concerns and urged Mexican authorities and GAP to reconsider this decision.
The proposed increase, which could reach up to 59.33% for domestic flights and 39.74% for international flights starting in 2025, could directly impact flight prices. This, in turn, could discourage travelers, affect connectivity and tourism in various regions of Mexico, as well as jeopardize the profitability of airlines.
The possible rise in the TUA raises serious concerns for both passengers and airlines, as it could result in a considerable increase in ticket costs, which in turn would lead to a decrease in flight demand. In this context, dialogue among the parties involved becomes crucial to find a balance that allows the sector to grow without compromising passenger accessibility.
