The airline Viva Aerobus is facing difficulties due to the global issue with Pratt and Whitney engines, which has caused 25 of its aircraft to be grounded. However, despite this situation, the company is expected to experience a 10% growth in 2024 compared to 2023, according to CEO Juan Carlos Zuazua Cosío.
To address the situation, Viva Aerobus has opted to temporarily lease European aircraft operated by its own staff, aiming to ensure service to its passengers. Zuazua Cosío mentioned that the preventive maintenance of the engines is still in progress, and it is predicted that the problem will extend until 2025 and 2026 globally.
Currently, the airline operates 170 routes and transports nearly 75,000 passengers daily, with seven operational bases in Mexico. By the end of the year, Viva Aerobus is expected to reach a fleet of 91 aircraft, and it is estimated that a total of 27 million people will have flown with them, consolidating their position in the domestic air market.
