The Secretary of Finance, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, appeared before legislators of the Finance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies reiterating the commitment to maintain healthy public finances to preserve macroeconomic stability and promote investment and employment. He emphasized the importance of using public resources for the benefit of the population and the need to work under the principle of austerity, avoiding unnecessary expenses.
In his opening speech, Ramírez de la O anticipated that the upcoming public budget would reflect the priorities of the new administration and would strive to consolidate the Mexican development model. He proposed an open and collaborative dialogue with the legislature to develop a consensual economic project that benefits the population. Additionally, he offered the availability of the Ministry of Finance to clarify doubts or comments about the documents they will present.
In response to questions from legislators, the Secretary acknowledged that the main concern of investors is the high fiscal deficit, which, combined with high interest rates, requires a significant reduction. Therefore, the fiscal package for the next year will aim to reduce the deficit while maintaining investment in infrastructure and social spending. Ramírez de la O invited the deputies to join together to achieve these objectives and highlighted the importance of maintaining a constant dialogue with entrepreneurs and investors to understand their plans and reactions to economic changes and public policies.
