Strong Winds Impact Southeast Mexico

A new "Norte" event is affecting various regions of Mexico with strong winds. It is anticipated that the phenomenon will continue in the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec with gusts of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour, while on Friday, gusts are expected to reach up to 110 km/h in those areas.

Cold Front number 24 has caused winds with speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, causing damage in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. According to the State Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management (CEPCyGR), fallen poles, interruptions in electricity supply, and damaged towers belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were reported in different localities of the region.

In response to the damages, the CFE quickly deployed its workers to restore power in San Pedro Tapanatepec, El Espinal, Salina Cruz, Niltepec, and Santo Domingo Ingenio. Additionally, repair work was carried out in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Asunción Ixtaltepec, and Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, where power outages also occurred.

According to the meteorologist of Civil Protection, Cutberto Ruiz Jarquin, the "Norte" event is expected to continue with gusts of 90 to 110 kilometers per hour on the La Venta-La Ventosa highway. Furthermore, elevated waves of three to five meters are forecasted around the Gulf of Tehuantepec, situations that will persist for the next 48 hours.

Given these adverse weather conditions, fishermen are advised to avoid activities in the Gulf of Tehuantepec for two days. Also, drivers and pedestrians are advised not to travel through the La Venta-La Ventosa stretch and fishermen are urged to thoroughly assess weather and oceanographic conditions before heading out to sea.
