A mountaineer who was reported missing after climbing the Iztaccíhuatl volcano was found dead. The body of Erick Ricardo García, 30 years old, was discovered in a ravine in the Atzompa ejido in the municipality of Chiautzingo after suffering a fall. The search efforts were carried out by high mountain brigadistas from the Red Cross, Civil Protection, and the state Public Security Secretariat.
During the ascent to Iztaccíhuatl, Erick Ricardo suffered a fall in an area of difficult access, complicating his location. It was one of his companions, originally from Puebla, who alerted the authorities, initiating the search efforts. After several hours of tracking, the mountaineer was found in the Atzompa ravine. Civil Protection reported that the maneuvers to recover the body are still ongoing due to the rugged terrain.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the accident and will provide support to the family of the deceased. Meanwhile, rescue efforts continue in the area where the unfortunate incident occurred. On the other hand, Francisco Javier Mateos, 61 years old, has been missing since March 14 after climbing La Malinche. Relevant actions are being taken to find him.
It is known that Francisco Javier reached the summit according to his last WhatsApp message, but all contact with him was subsequently lost. Based on his search report, he was wearing a jacket, blue denim pants, brown boots, and glasses with a silver frame, as well as a hiking pole. The search efforts are currently focused on the area around the shelter of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Los Pilares, Huamantla, Tlaxcala.
Authorities urge the public to provide any information that may help locate Francisco Javier while rescue efforts intensify.
