The next edition of the Cannes Film Festival will pay tribute to one of the most emblematic films of Mexican cinema, "Amores perros." Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu in his debut, and starring Gael García Bernal, this film has established itself as one of the most influential in Mexico, acclaimed by critics and audiences since its release.

The movie won 11 Ariel Awards and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, breaking a 25-year absence of Mexican cinema in that category. Additionally, it received the Grand Prize of the Critics' Week at Cannes, marking a milestone for national cinematography and projecting Iñárritu as one of the most important directors worldwide.

Twenty-five years after its premiere, "Amores perros" will be honored at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, reaffirming its relevance as one of the most representative films of Mexican cinema. The film will be screened in 4K quality, following a restoration done by Criterion Collection, Estudio México Films, and Altavista Films, supervised by Iñárritu and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto.

Alejandro González Iñárritu will be present at Cannes to introduce the screening and participate in a subsequent discussion. On this occasion, he is expected to talk about the personal and professional importance of "Amores perros," as well as its impact and influence on international cinema.

The film has drawn attention for its raw and realistic approach to addressing themes such as violence, social inequality, betrayal, and human suffering. Its fragmented narrative, treatment of characters, and visual power have allowed it to connect with audiences from different contexts, transcending borders.
