Mexico offers a unique opportunity to listen carefully to Kyle Rowland. This young guitarist, harmonica player, singer, and blues composer will perform with another extraordinary Mexican guitarist, Emiliano Juárez, and his band. His blues is not only serious but also fun, incorporating rhythm and blues and soul elements. Kyle Rowland's work reflects a heritage that revives and re-signifies a socio-cultural expression at risk of disappearing. Fernando Reyes Reyes, one of the directors of Idiotas Teatro, recreates a universe where the real and the fantastic intertwine. The music is also live, featuring the participation of 10 musicians from Pasatono Orquesta, a group with over 27 years dedicated to research and creation, fusing traditional repertoires. The other company participating in the project is Idiotas Teatro, founded in 2011, which offers family-friendly performances where clowning, live music, and physical theater are fundamental. Access is free, but space is limited. The tour includes a show on Friday, February 6th, at Jazzland in Puebla City, on Saturday, February 7th, at Parker & Lenox in Mexico City, and on Monday, February 9th, at Baja Joe’s in Baja California Sur. In Rowland's voice and sound, one can hear an aged blues, the music of the slaves, as well as the chords of a primordial blues that sounds like the railroad, cotton fields, work songs, songs of lost love, old 'shouts,' and rural folk. Accompanied by local musicians, his visit to Mexico offers an exceptional opportunity to listen to a blues that honors its historical origin and dialogues with contemporary audiences. Critics describe him as impressive, surprising, skillful, talented, and one of the new faces of contemporary blues. In 2023 and 2024, he was a semi-finalist in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and was inducted as the youngest member into the Sacramento Blues Hall of Fame. His most recent album is titled "Not Holding Back!" from the California-based label Little Village Foundation. This weekend, at the Scenic Pavilion of Chapultepec Forest, there will be two daily shows at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM of the performance "Maroma," created by Idiotas Teatro and Pasatono Orquesta. It is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Mixtec maroma, with music, dance, and humor that also offers the creative vision of various artists. The show combines shadow theater, physical and object techniques with floor acrobatics, leading the audience on a journey between life and death that highlights aspects of Mixtec culture. This Saturday and Sunday, the San Valentine's edition of the Café Chocolate Fest will take place, an event where the whole family can enjoy specialty coffee, high-cacao chocolates, artisanal products, and many activities.
