Five people died and 25 were injured in a fatal traffic accident between a bus and a truck in the town of Caborca, in the Mexican state of Sonora (northeast), the state Civil Protection agency reported on Friday through its social networks. The emergency department explained that the fatal accident occurred at kilometer 118 of the Sonoyta-Caborca stretch, where personnel from the Red Cross, Firefighters, Municipal Police, and Civil Protection were deployed. Initially, the agency reported four fatalities from the incident, but hours later confirmed the death of a fifth person. Regarding the number of injured, authorities reported a total of 25 people injured, nine of whom continue to receive medical attention and are 'out of danger.' One of the vehicles involved in the crash is from the bus transport company Tufesa, the company confirmed in a press release. Tufesa detailed that its driver is hospitalized receiving medical care and recognized his 'effort to maintain control of the unit in a critical situation.' The company also stated that it will remain 'respectful' during the process to investigate the causes of the accident and said it will 'fully cooperate with the competent authorities' during the official expert assessment. For now, the cause of the accident has not been disclosed. Sonora's governor, Alfonso Durazo, expressed in a post on X his 'sincere condolences to the families and loved ones' of the victims of the fatal crash. 'From the first moment, authorities from the three orders of government are at the scene, providing timely medical attention and accompaniment to the injured and their families,' the governor added.
