Hurricane Kristy Intensifies to Category 3

Hurricane Kristy has increased its intensity to category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. It is located 590 km south-southwest of Isla Socorro, Colima, and 1,045 km south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. It has maximum sustained winds of 205 km/h and gusts of up to 250 km/h, moving west at 31 km/h. Despite its strength, it currently poses no danger due to its distance and direction.

Kristy, which originated as a tropical storm in the southern Pacific near the Mexican coast, has strengthened to become a category 1 hurricane before reaching its current classification. It is forecasted to continue intensifying and could reach category 4 around 00:00 hours on October 24, being 1,285 km southwest of Cabo San Lucas.

On the other hand, in the Atlantic Ocean, Hurricane Oscar has weakened to tropical remnants after making landfall in Cuba as a category 1 hurricane last Sunday. Following its passage, the island is in the recovery process after suffering flooding and power outages.

Meteorological authorities have stated that Hurricane Kristy is expected to continue moving over open waters without threatening land, so no alerts or coastal advisories have been issued so far.
