Day of the Dead 2024: Break for Students in Yucatán

In November next, although there will be days off, not all students in Mexico will be able to enjoy this free time. November 1st and 2nd fall on Friday and Saturday in 2024, ideal days to participate in events commemorating the Day of the Dead. Despite this, the Federal Labor Law does not designate these days as holidays, so not everyone will have the opportunity to take a break.

In the specific case of basic education students, the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year indicates that November 1st is a regular day, so classes will continue as usual in most schools. However, there are exceptions, such as in Yucatán, where the Secretary of Education informed that school activities will be suspended that Friday in commemoration of the Day of the Dead traditions.

In Mexico, the next holiday will be on November 18th, for the Mexican Revolution, as established in the Federal Labor Law. The last day off of the year will be December 25th for the Christmas holidays. Likewise, basic education students will have November 29th off due to the Technical Council that takes place monthly in schools.

In case of working on a holiday, the law states that employers must determine who will provide services, and these employees will have the right to receive double pay for the work performed, in addition to the pay corresponding to the day off. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, a Sunday premium must be paid in addition to triple pay for working that day.

After these days off, are you already looking forward to enjoying another long weekend?
