New Trolebus Project to Benefit Millions in Mexico

The Chalco-Santa Martha Trolleybus, which connects Chalco in the State of Mexico with Line A of the Metro in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, stands out as a non-polluting metropolitan transport mode that will save citizens up to an hour and a half in their journeys. The governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez, emphasized the importance of this project to improve the mobility of millions of people traveling between the two entities.

The construction will have 13 stations and two terminals over 18.5 kilometers, with an initial fleet of 108 trolleybuses, expandable to 184 units. It is expected to reduce travel times from the current 2 hours to 45 minutes in normal service and 33 minutes in express service, benefiting around 230,000 passengers. Additionally, it will allow users to save 1 hour and 15 minutes in their travels from Chalco, Valle de Chalco, or La Paz to Mexico City.

The project requires an investment of 10 billion 200 million pesos, with 2 billion 800 million coming from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) and 7 billion 400 million from the government of the State of Mexico. Segment 1, which will function as the Santa Martha terminal, will connect La Paz with Pantitlán, the Cablebus station on Line 2, Santa Marta with Constitución de 1917, and the Elevated Trolleybus.

The mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, supervised the construction progress of the Elevated Trolleybus from Santa Martha Acatitla to Chalco, accompanied by Clara Brugada, head of Government of Mexico City, and Delfina Gómez, governor of the State of Mexico. On social media, Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted the importance of this project to improve connectivity between the two entities.
