
The National Meteorological Service has issued a warning for the arrival of cold front number 24 in Mexico, which will impact various areas of the country next week with heavy rains, extremely cold temperatures, snowfall in some areas, and extreme weather conditions. The affected areas will include the Yucatan Peninsula, as well as the northwest, east, and southeast of Mexico.
According to the weather forecast, the Arctic air mass associated with this front is expected to maintain a very cold to freezing environment in the northeastern, northern, northeastern, eastern, and central states of the country. This could lead to snow, sleet, and freezing rain in mountainous regions. The Arctic air mass is expected to strengthen, intensifying extreme cold conditions in the northern, northwest, eastern, central, and southeastern states of Mexico, with possible fog banks in some regions.
For Monday, January 20, heavy rains with very strong local downpours are expected in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo. There will be intervals of showers with strong local rains in Campeche and Yucatan, and showers are expected in Tamaulipas. Regarding snowfall, sleet, or freezing rain, it is expected to occur in the mountainous areas of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas during the night and early morning of Tuesday, January 21.
Temperatures will record very low values, ranging from -15 to 5 degrees Celsius in various mountainous areas of the country. In light of these conditions, the SMN recommends that the population take precautions, follow the recommendations of local authorities, and stay safe during this weather phenomenon.
