Fire in Colonia Juárez Affects Businesses and Health

In the morning of January 20, a fire in a building housing several businesses on Paseo de la Reforma, in the Juárez neighborhood, caused a strong mobilization of emergency services in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. The fire was triggered by a short circuit in the electrical substation, according to Jonathan Pascual Capote Romero, director of Risk Prevention Dissemination of the Secretariat for Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC).

Jonathan Capote reported that only two people required transfer to nearby hospitals for stabilization, with no reports of serious injuries. A person was also treated for a nervous crisis. Several individuals were affected by smoke inhalation and were evacuated from the building, receiving immediate attention at the scene.

The fire triggered a dense smoke emanation visible from nearby streets, leading to the evacuation of dozens of people by Civil Protection. The Heroic Fire Department of Mexico City responded to the alert call at 9:34 AM and quickly controlled the situation.

The Command, Control, Computing, Communications, and Citizen Contact Center (C5) reported that traffic in the area was affected as a result of the fire, advising motorists to take alternate routes. At the scene of the incident, an electric generator burned, and firefighting and ventilation efforts were carried out by emergency services.

Despite the magnitude of the fire, no serious damage or significant injuries were reported, thanks to the rapid intervention of the authorities and rescue teams.
