Doctor Rodolfo Antonio de Mucha Macías, in a statement for the official IMSS site, explained that cataracts are a condition that occurs as a result of ocular aging, but can also be caused by diseases such as diabetes. He also pointed out that surgical treatment is highly effective, being a minimally invasive procedure that involves the removal of the lens through a small incision in the eye, followed by the implantation of an artificial intraocular lens.

The Government of Mexico has launched the "See for Mexico" program aimed at providing free surgeries to correct cataracts nationwide. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced in a morning conference at the National Palace that these interventions will be at no cost thanks to the collaboration of specialists from various institutions, such as IMSS, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of National Defense, and ISSSTE.

The program includes the participation of 176 hospitals across the country. To access the surgeries, interested individuals can go through a website set up by the government, where they must log in with their Llave MX account, complete the required information, and validate the data to submit the request. Authorities will assign the nearest medical unit, the necessary studies, the surgery, and follow-up for a successful recovery.
