Promoting Alcoholism Recovery and Inclusion in Mexico

The 30th National Information Week 'Sharing Efforts' takes place from January 20 to 26 to promote inclusion in alcoholism recovery and educate the public about Alcoholics Anonymous.

The Mexican Central General Services of Alcoholics Anonymous A.C. organizes the thirtieth edition of the National Information Week "Sharing Efforts" (SNICE) from January 20 to 26, with the slogan 'Diversity is Our Strength.' This event is designed to inform the public and professionals about the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program in alcohol recovery.

During the inauguration ceremony held at the Bankers' Center in Mexico, the importance of the AA program was highlighted as a valuable and effective tool for alcohol rehabilitation, available free of charge to those seeking to overcome this illness. This year will focus on raising awareness about alcoholism, with the participation of institutions such as the Secretary of Health and the IMSS.

Alcoholics Anonymous has around 14,000 mutual aid groups in Mexico, organized into 83 service areas and 1,344 districts, with approximately 110,000 members committed to recovery. Juan A. Sabines Torres, President of the Mexican Central General Services of Alcoholics Anonymous A.C., has emphasized the importance of providing a safe and accessible space for those struggling with alcoholism, regardless of their background or beliefs.

This year, the National Information Week "Sharing Efforts" focuses on the inclusion and visibility of the LGBTIQ+ community under the theme "AA: Diversity is Our Strength and Hope" and the slogan "90 Years of Love and Service: Gender Perspective in AA Groups." According to the Mtro., diversity is a strength that allows everyone to have a chance at recovery.

During this week, informational meetings and talks will be held in various institutions such as schools, hospitals, markets, and businesses across the country. As part of the educational activities, pamphlets, brochures, and AA books will be distributed to raise awareness about the negative effects of alcohol abuse and promote the importance of inclusion in alcohol recovery.
