Low temperatures and extreme weather conditions due to Cold Front 24 have led to the suspension of in-person classes in several states across the country. This measure aims to protect the integrity of students and teachers. In Coahuila, classes were canceled on January 22 due to the presence of ice on the roads in the Southeast and Central regions. The population was urged to take precautions when traveling and to follow the instructions of Civil Protection.
On the other hand, in Guanajuato, it was announced that school activities will be held virtually on the same day in the northeastern municipalities due to extreme low temperatures. This measure affects both public and private schools at the basic and upper secondary levels. In Tamaulipas, it was decided to suspend classes on January 21 and 22 in the central and highland municipalities, as well as in the border area and the San Fernando valley, due to the forecast of temperatures below zero degrees Celsius.
In Hidalgo, school directors are requested to inform about possible changes in schedules or school closures due to low temperatures in various regions of the state, coordinating remote attention. In Puebla, in-person classes were suspended in several regions for January 22, with academic activities continuing remotely, while in Veracruz the suspension of classes was announced for all educational levels in the 212 municipalities of the state, due to low temperatures and phenomena such as snowfall and sleet in the mountainous area.
Federico Acevedo Rosas, deputy director of Meteorological Studies and Forecasts of the Civil Protection Secretariat, explained that the phenomenon is caused by cold front number 24 and its Arctic air mass. Educational activities will resume as weather conditions improve, according to the authorities.
