The State Coordination of Civil Protection of Querétaro is preparing to open shelters in the mountainous region of the state due to the low temperatures that have been recorded in some localities. According to the statement issued by the agency, municipalities such as Jalpan de Serra, Pinal de Amoles, and San Joaquín have reached minimum temperatures of up to -2 degrees Celsius, while in the Metropolitan Area, temperatures have been recorded at 3 degrees.
The establishment of 21 shelters in the most vulnerable areas of the mountainous region is planned, with a capacity to accommodate 3,099 people. In addition, it is expected that temperatures in the mountainous area and high parts of the entity will range from 0 to -2 degrees Celsius as a minimum and can reach 10 degrees Celsius as a maximum, with the possibility of sleet in high areas.
Despite these conditions, no damages or risky situations have been reported so far due to the drop in temperatures, so it has not been necessary to transfer people to the shelters.
The State Coordination of Civil Protection of Querétaro calls on the population to follow preventive recommendations aimed at avoiding risks due to low temperatures caused by the displacement of Cold Front 24 and an Arctic air mass. This phenomenon will cause a drop in temperatures across the country on January 22 and 23.
During the night of Tuesday, sleet and frost were reported in several localities, such as Zoyapilca, Valle Verde, Tres Lagunas, San Diego, San Gaspar, El Refugio, among others. Furthermore, a minimum temperature between 1 and 0 degrees Celsius is forecast for the metropolitan, central, and southern areas of the state of Querétaro.
