The Government of Coahuila has announced a "temperature gauge" to justify absences and delays in basic education schools due to the low temperatures affecting the region. These criteria establish specific temperature ranges for which justification can be requested, depending on the educational level, with the aim of prioritizing the health of children and adolescents.
According to the authorities, absences or delays will be justified when the temperatures are between 0° and -2° Celsius, 30 minutes before the start time. For initial education, preschool, and special education levels, the temperature to consider is 0°C; for primary education, -1°C; and for secondary education, -2°C.
In this regard, the government has also issued recommendations for parents to prioritize the health of their children. It is suggested to send children well bundled up, to consume hot drinks and vitamin C-rich foods, and to stay home if they exhibit symptoms of respiratory illnesses.
On Wednesday, classes were suspended in the Southeast and Center-Desert regions due to the presence of ice on the roads. So far, no new notice of class suspension has been issued, and authorities urge the population to stay informed through the official channels of the Government of the State of Coahuila and Civil Protection.
With this measure, it is expected that families can help determine their children's attendance at schools based on weather conditions and official provisions.
