
During the last 24 hours, the National Seismological Service (SSN) reported the occurrence of 48 earthquakes in various states of Mexico, such as Guerrero, Baja California, Colima, Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Chiapas, Michoacán, and Oaxaca. Seven of them stood out due to their significant magnitude.
In Guerrero, three earthquakes were recorded with magnitudes of 4.0, 4.2, and 4.3, with epicenters in Técpan, Acapulco, and Petatlán respectively. In Chiapas, for its part, four earthquakes were felt, one of 4.04, two of 4.2, and another of 4.3, with epicenters in Mapastepec, Motozintla, Cintalapa, and Pijijiapan.
Regarding seismic activity, authorities assured that no material damage occurred and no people were injured during this day of earthquakes that took place on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
In this context, the SSN and Civil Protection units emphasized to the population the importance of keeping family protection plans updated and consulting official sources for reliable information about seismic activity in the country.
Civil Protection of the Government of Mexico pointed out some measures to follow after an earthquake to ensure safety, such as staying alert for possible aftershocks, using the phone only for emergencies, turning on the radio to receive relevant information, collaborating with authorities, not using a building if it is damaged, and being alert for possible gas leaks, among other preventive actions.
