Pepe Arévalo has dedicated much of his life to music, showing interest in this art since his adolescence. In the 70s, he founded his first musical group, Pepe Arévalo and his mulatos, and has collaborated with renowned musicians like Javier Bátiz and the iconic Cuban singer Celia Cruz. In recognition of his musical career, in 2023 he was awarded the Clave de la Música prize for his six decades of professional career, and the National Lottery of Mexico dedicated a drawing and a ticket in his honor.
José Luis Arévalo shared that Pepe Arévalo is hospitalized at the General Hospital of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) after presenting health complications that required urgent medical attention. The musician, known for reinterpreting popular songs from regional Mexican music in genres like cumbia and salsa, was transported by ambulance to the hospital after feeling unwell and receiving the diagnosis of stroke.
Pepe Arévalo's condition is delicate and he is in intensive care, where he will be intubated in an attempt at recovery. Despite the measures taken by the medical team, the prognosis is not very favorable, but his family maintains hope that he will respond and improve. In 1978, under the name Pepe y sus Mulatos, one of his most successful songs, "Salomé," marked a high point in his musical career and in the movement "La Rumba es Cultura."
