New Driving Restrictions in Mexico State

In some municipalities of the State of Mexico and throughout Mexico City, the rules of the Hoy No Circula program apply, which prevent certain vehicles from circulating from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. These restrictions apply to vehicles with red stickers and license plates ending in the numbers 3 or 4. Those who do not comply with these measures will face fines that vary between 20, 25, or 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), amounting to thousands of pesos.

In addition to the fine, the vehicle will be towed to the vehicle deposit and the driver must pay a fee depending on the towing capacity of the unit. For example, if the capacity is less than 3.5 tons, the fee is 919 pesos, while if it is greater, it rises to 1,833 pesos. There are exceptions to these restrictions, such as vehicles with holograms 0 and 00, agricultural tractors, motorcycles, units with a gross vehicle weight of less than or equal to 400 kilograms, among others.

In the case of cars with circulation hologram 1, the restrictions also apply on certain days according to the last digit of the plate. Additionally, vehicles with foreign license plates have their own restrictions, with circulation prohibited on Saturdays from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM and from Monday to Friday from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with an additional prohibition day depending on the last digit of the plate.

The restrictions of the Hoy No Circula program apply in all municipalities of Mexico City, as well as in various municipalities of the State of Mexico, including Chicoloapan, Ecatepec, Huixquilucan, Ixtapaluca, La Paz, and Naucalpan, among others.
