Cold Front Warning and Rain Forecast in Mexico

The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported the arrival of cold front number 25 in the country, which will bring with it low temperatures and rain. This phenomenon will move over the Gulf of Mexico slope and interact with a low-pressure channel in the southeast, causing showers and heavy rains in the east and southeast of Mexico, including the Yucatán Peninsula.

Very strong localized rains are expected in Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco, in addition to intervals of showers and heavy rains in Campeche, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. Furthermore, there will be isolated rains in various entities of the country, accompanied by winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour in some areas.

Regarding temperatures, a cold to very cold environment is expected during the mornings and nights in the northwest, north, and northeast of Mexico. In mountainous areas like Chihuahua, temperatures could reach -15 to -10 degrees Celsius, and from -10 to -15 degrees in Durango, while frosts are expected in regions of Baja California, Sonora, Zacatecas, among other states.

Conagua explained that the effects of cold fronts include a drop in temperature, rain, fog, strong winds, and elevated waves. Among the most affected entities are Durango, Zacatecas, Tlaxcala, State of Mexico, Mexico City, and Hidalgo.

In light of this situation, Civil Protection issued recommendations to the population to prepare during the cold months, such as dressing in several layers, drinking hot beverages, covering the nose and mouth when going out, and especially taking care of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
