Profeco established that all these brands met requirements such as providing correct information to the consumer, having an appropriate net content, and being made from the declared product. In addition, the acidity values of the olive oils are within the established norms.
Among the benefits of olive oil highlighted by Profeco are the presence of polyphenols that protect against degenerative diseases, Vitamin E that fights free radicals, benefits for lowering cholesterol, and the association with a reduced risk of dementia according to Harvard University.
Regarding the different types of olive oil, Profeco mentions that there are four categories: extra virgin, virgin, regular, and pomace. Each with distinct characteristics, such as the quality of the olives used, the level of acidity, and the production process.
