The National Meteorological Service warns of low temperatures and rainfall in over 10 states due to a cold front and low-pressure channel on February 3rd. Residents should prepare for cold weather and potential heavy rain.


Cold Weather and Rain Expected Across Mexico

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported the arrival of low temperatures to more than 10 states in Mexico on Monday, February 3. Cold front number 25, combined with a low-pressure channel, will cause rain and a cold environment in several states during the long weekend for Constitution Day.

According to the SMN, the cold environment will remain in the north, northeast, center, and east of the country despite the polar air mass associated with front No. 25 moving towards the southeast United States. North winds with gusts of up to 80 km/h are expected in the isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, and 15 to 25 km/h with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.

Regarding climatic conditions, intervals of showers with heavy rains are expected in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco. Showers are also expected in other states such as Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, State of Mexico, Mexico City, among others. Some states like Nuevo León and Yucatán could record isolated rains.

In relation to temperatures, minimums of -10 to -5 °C with frost are forecasted in mountainous areas of Chihuahua and Durango. In Sonora, Zacatecas, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, and Puebla, minimums of -5 to 0 °C with frost are expected, while in Baja California, Baja California Sur, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, and other states, temperatures of 0 to 5 °C are anticipated. On the other hand, an increase in temperatures is expected in some entities of the country, such as Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Nayarit, among others, where maximums could reach 35 to 40 degrees.

In light of this climatic variation, the population is advised to prepare with jackets and umbrellas to face the adverse weather conditions expected for this Monday.
