Gruesome Discovery on Roadway in Nuevo León

Mexican authorities found four plastic bags containing human remains on a road in Nuevo León this Thursday, a northern border state in Mexico facing a wave of violence from organized crime. The State Attorney General's Office reported that the discovery occurred in the municipality of Galeana at kilometer 118 of the Matehuala-Saltillo highway, in the southern part of the state.

"A report was received from the A.E.I (State Investigation Agency) radio plant regarding the discovery of four black plastic bags containing human remains located at the entrance to the San José de Raíces ejido (ranch) in the municipality of Galeana, Nuevo León," the authority specified in an information sheet.

Preliminarily, it was established that human remains of at least one male person were found inside the bags. In recent years, Nuevo León has faced a serious security crisis caused by organized crime disputes.

The events occur while Nuevo León faced one of the most violent years of the decade in 2024, when it rose to seventh place nationally in intentional homicides, with 1,539, according to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.
