Extreme Temperatures Expected in Mexico

The winter season has not yet come to an end, but this Thursday, February 6, high temperatures are expected in three states of Mexico, reaching 45 degrees Celsius. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua) has indicated that this is due to an anticyclonic circulation at mid-levels of the atmosphere, which will create a warm environment in Pacific coastal states, the Yucatan Peninsula, the Northern Plateau, and the Central Plateau.

On the other hand, despite these high temperatures, 18 states will wake up to warm temperatures, ranging from -10 to 5 degrees. The combination of various factors such as a low-pressure channel in the southeast, humidity from several oceans, cyclonic circulation at mid and high levels, and an upper trough will cause rain and showers in various regions of the country. Furthermore, the formation of a dry line in northern Mexico is expected, bringing isolated rains.

Regarding temperatures, maximums of 40 to 45 degrees are anticipated in Michoacán, Guerrero, and Oaxaca, and 35 to 40 degrees in other states like Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Jalisco, Colima, Morelos, Puebla, and Chiapas. On the other hand, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo expect maximum temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees.

For those who prefer the cold, minimum temperatures of -10 to -5 degrees are forecasted in mountainous areas of Sonora, Chihuahua, and Durango. Additionally, there will be minimums of -5 to 0 degrees Celsius in Baja California, and from 0 to 5 degrees in other states like Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Zacatecas, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Puebla, among others.

Regarding rainfall, intervals of showers are expected in regions such as Guerrero, State of Mexico, Puebla, Veracruz, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo, while there will be isolated rains in Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Mexico City, Michoacán, and Yucatán.
