Violent Prison Clash in Villahermosa Leaves Seven Dead

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Tabasco reported a shooting inside a prison in the state. According to local media, the confrontation between inmates occurred around 11:00 local time and provoked a response from National Guard agents and state security.

Videos circulating on social media show the sound of gunfire and family members of the inmates waiting outside the prison for information. Meanwhile, two motorcycle taxi drivers who led a protest against the National Guard were found decapitated in Villa OcuiltzapotlĂ­n, municipality of Centro.

The men appeared in previous videos confessing to engaging in extortion and placing obstacles on roads. They even mentioned links to alleged collaborators within state security institutions.

During the protest they led on January 27, the drivers reported alleged abuses by members of the National Guard. One of them, Pedro de la Cruz, claimed to have been falsely accused of extortion after suffering a burglary at home.

The riot in the Tabasco prison that left at least seven dead took place on Tuesday, February 3. The Attorney General's Office of the state has initiated an investigation into the matter. The events occurred at the Social Reintegration Center of Tabasco in Villahermosa.
