Young Mexicans' Future: A Collective Responsibility

Efforts to guide Mexican youth away from crime have started to show promise. Community engagement and education are essential to ensure that young people see honest opportunities for their future.

Young Mexicans' Future: A Collective Responsibility

All efforts from the authorities and society are bearing fruit, but there is still work ahead. It is crucial to strengthen families and maintain united homes, instilling values and principles that provide young people with options and opportunities so they are not tempted by illegal life.

The reality of criminal groups differs greatly from common perception: they are hierarchical structures with pre-established leaders, usually through family ties, benefiting from a marginalized base. It is necessary to raise awareness and spread ideas that support the establishment of a plural, open, and harmonious society, opposed to the illusion of power and instant wealth generated by the criminal's individualism.

According to the latest INEGI survey, assaults on young people and adolescents are the main cause of death in these groups, with homicide as the most common form of violence, despite the constant decrease observed in recent years. It is essential to create a safe environment for young people, both at home and in the community, to steer them away from illegality.

It is vital for all of us to collaborate so that young people are not drawn to misguided paths, providing them support and opportunities. Programs and actions aimed at preventing school dropout, facilitating access to employment, and raising awareness of the dangers of joining criminal groups have been key to curbing the incorporation of young people into criminal activities.

Ultimately, education and honest work are fundamental pillars for the formation of young people and the construction of a more prosperous and secure society. It is the responsibility of each individual, in all areas of life, to contribute to ensuring that young people have a strong support network that keeps them away from the temptation of crime.
