Extreme Temperatures Expected in Mexico This Weekend

This weekend, temperatures in Mexico are predicted to reach as high as 45 degrees Celsius, especially in Guerrero and Oaxaca. The National Water Commission warns of high heat due to an anticyclonic circulation in the atmosphere. With a cold front approaching, some areas may also experience isolated rain.


Extreme Temperatures Expected in Mexico This Weekend

On Friday, February 7, high temperatures are expected in various regions of Mexico. In Guerrero and Oaxaca, temperatures are forecasted to range from 40 to 45 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, in Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Durango, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Morelos, Puebla, and Chiapas, temperatures are expected to be between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius. Additionally, other states such as San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, State of Mexico, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatán will register maximum temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees Celsius.

For Saturday, February 8, high temperatures are forecasted in states such as Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Chiapas, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Morelos, and Puebla. Additionally, temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees Celsius are expected in Sonora, Chihuahua, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Querétaro, State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatán.

The National Water Commission also reported that a new cold front could enter the northwest of Mexico, causing strong wind gusts and isolated rains in Baja California on Friday, February 7. For Saturday, February 8, this cold front is expected to remain stationary over the northwest, north, and northeast of the country, generating strong winds and rains in these areas. Low temperatures are forecasted in mountainous areas of Chihuahua and Durango, with values ranging from -10 to -5 degrees Celsius.

For the early morning of Saturday, temperatures of -5 to 0 degrees Celsius with frosts are forecasted in areas of Baja California, Sonora, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, and Puebla. Likewise, temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius are expected in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Veracruz, and Oaxaca.

On Sunday, February 9, temperatures of 40 to 45 degrees Celsius are expected in Guerrero. During this weekend, an anticyclonic circulation at mid-levels of the atmosphere is expected to maintain a hot to very hot environment in states along the Pacific coast and areas of the Northern and Central Mesa, with clear skies and no rains in the northwest, north, and west of the country. The presence of a low-pressure channel over the southeast of the territory and humidity from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea will generate rains and intermittent showers in the northeast, east, south, and southeast of Mexico, including the Yucatán Peninsula.
