The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reported on the advances of the National Security Strategy, highlighting a 12 percent decrease in homicides. This reduction has been achieved thanks to inter-institutional coordination and the commitment of the Security Cabinet.
During the morning conference "The people's morning briefings," Sheinbaum expressed her gratitude to the Security Cabinet for their dedication. She highlighted the work of the Secretary General, the Secretary Admiral, the Secretary of Security, the Secretary of Governance, the Legal Advisor, and the coordination with the Prosecutor's Office. The President reaffirmed the commitment to continue working daily to achieve more results.
According to the most recent report from the Security Cabinet, the 12 percent decrease in intentional homicides corresponds to the first four months of her term. Additionally, the crime incidence report from the National Public Security System indicates that in January 2025, the lowest daily average of homicides since 2018 was recorded.
In another context, Nuevo León closed last year with a significant reduction in intentional homicides thanks to the strategies implemented by the state government in collaboration with the municipalities. Last January, the number of homicides was the lowest for this month since 2020.
The State Attorney General's Office reported that in January of this year, 81 homicides were recorded, marking a 30.77 percent decrease compared to the same month last year. This figure is the lowest since January 2020. Regarding other crimes, a general decrease was observed, except for cases such as corruption of minors, vehicle theft, and negligent homicides, which saw an increase.
Security experts highlight that the positive results are due to the coordinated work of the authorities against insecurity. The data presented by the Prosecutor's Office shows a downward trend in various crimes compared to the previous year, reflecting effective joint efforts in the fight against crime.
