Two earthquakes shook Guerrero this Friday, February 14. The first, with a magnitude of 5.2, occurred southwest of Ometepec at 9:26 am, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN). A second, weaker earthquake was recorded in the municipality of San Marcos just a few seconds later.
The National Coordination of Civil Protection issued recommendations, urging caution in small vessels and among the coastal population due to possible strong currents in ports near the epicenter. So far, no incidents have been reported as a result of the earthquakes.
Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda reported that the Secretariat of Risk Management and Civil Protection of Guerrero activated the corresponding protocols. She urged the population to call the emergency number 911 in case of an emergency.
Users on social media mentioned that the tremor was felt in some areas of Mexico City, such as the municipalities of Benito Juárez and Cuauhtémoc. Despite the perception of the earthquake in CDMX, the Mexican Seismic Alert System did not issue an alarm.
The Secretariat of Citizen Security reminded people of post-earthquake safety measures, including following the authorities' instructions, checking for injuries, and staying away from poles, trees, wires, and tall structures.
In Morelos, monitoring began with the Municipal Civil Protection Systems, with no reports of damages or sensations in the state following the seismic movements.
