Detention Ordered for Parents in Infant Abandonment Case

Two people, identified as Diana Jaciel 'N' and Lucio David 'N', were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a newborn after Lucio abandoned the baby in the public street in Tultitlán. The Mexican Attorney General's Office reported that Lucio will be transferred to the Cuautitlán Penitentiary and Reintegration Center, while Diana will go to the Tlalnepantla Prison.

Diana, the baby’s mother, reported Lucio for abandoning the child after he voluntarily presented himself to the Mexico City Attorney General's Office on February 12 and was taken to Cuautitlán Izcalli to give a statement. After the interviews, the Attorney General's Office requested the arrests of both.

The abandonment of the baby in Tultitlán caused outrage. Lucio was captured leaving the newborn on the ground, wrapped in a bag, in the middle of the street. A neighbor heard the baby crying on February 11 and called for help from the police and paramedics.

The State Workers' Social Security Institute (ISSSTE) reported that the newborn, at 36 weeks and weighing 2,170 grams, is in good health at the Regional Hospital of High Specialty 'Bicentennial of Independence'. Martín Batres, director of ISSSTE, provided this update about the baby.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico has opened an investigation because the parents endangered the life and integrity of the newborn.
