The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) issued an alert about the illegal commercialization of products made with CBD, highlighting the Paradise brand, associated with former president Vicente Fox. According to Cofepris, products containing ingredients such as CBD, hemp extract, hemp oil, or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) pose a risk to public health and cannot be used in food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, or beverages according to the regulation of the General Health Law.
Cofepris detailed that the Paradise brand products do not have the necessary authorizations and are being sold illegally on websites, social media, convenience stores, and independent distributors. This situation increases the risk of involuntary poisoning due to a lack of information about raw materials, manufacturing conditions, and storage.
It is recommended not to acquire or consume products from these brands and to avoid combining them with medications due to uncertainty about possible adverse reactions. Paradise, a company in which Fox is a shareholder alongside Marcus Dantus and Roberto Palazuelos, offers a variety of cannabis-related products without evidence of safety, quality, or manufacturing origin.
This company, founded in 2015, operates nearly 100 stores nationwide under a franchise model. In July 2023, Cofepris seized products from Paradise and closed one of its stores in Mexico City. Irregularities were found in the product labeling information, and it was reported that the chain operates outside the health regulations, as the General Health Law categorizes cannabis and cannabinoids specifically in its regulation.
