The Korean embassy in Mexico condemned the aggression, harassment, and bullying endured by 13-year-old Fátima Maite, who was thrown from the third floor of a secondary school in the Iztapalapa borough for being a fan of the genre known as K-Pop. In a statement shared on social media, the diplomatic mission expressed its outrage over the case, sent support for the girl whose condition is critical, and called for justice for the abuses suffered. It also reminded that the values of K-Pop promote diversity, inclusion, and healthy entertainment for young people, rejecting any type of aggression that young people may suffer due to their passions for Korea. The embassy tagged the Iztapalapa borough and urged attention to acts of harassment in schools or communities.
"We condemn any physical, verbal, psychological, or cybernetic aggression that young people suffer due to their interest in Korea," stated the Korean embassy. In a message titled "#ComunidadHallyuSumemos fuerza," a call was made to abolish these negative manifestations and demand justice for Fátima. K-pop fans united to demand respect, justice, and empathy in the case of this high school student in Mexico City, emphasizing that the harassment and bullying she suffered are unacceptable. Additionally, the need for authorities to act urgently and seriously in the case so that those responsible face the consequences of their actions was stressed.
Fátima's family is facing economic difficulties to cover medical expenses, as the teenager suffered a pelvis fracture after being pushed from the third floor, leaving her hospitalized and at risk of never walking again. According to the account of Juan Z, the girl's father, the incidents occurred on February 13 at daytime school 236 in Iztapalapa, where school authorities were already aware of the harassment suffered by Fátima and had not taken any measures in this regard. The situation has generated great shock and calls from the community to eradicate violence and harassment in schools and in society in general.
