
On the morning of this Sunday, the Mexico-Puebla highway is paralyzed due to a multiple collision at kilometer 53, resulting in the total closure of traffic in both directions. The incident caused a gas tanker to catch fire, generating a column of smoke visible for kilometers. The explosion of the gas tanker prompted an intense mobilization of emergency services, including firefighters from Ixtapaluca and Chalco, as well as ambulances. Additionally, traffic is being redirected at Río Frío towards Mexico City.
"Authorities recommend drivers take precautions and stay informed through the CAPUFE number 074. So far, the number of victims is unknown. The accident has caused long lines of stranded vehicles, with reports of more than 15 kilometers of congestion."
Caminos y Puentes Federales de Ingresos y Servicios Conexos (CAPUFE) reported the closure to traffic due to a multi-vehicle rear-end collision and vehicle fire. CAPUFE also announced the closure of the San Marcos Toll Plaza in the direction of Puebla for the safety of users.
