Profeco Clarifies Cinema Food Regulations

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco) denied information that had circulated on social media about the possibility of bringing certain foods into movie theaters in Mexico. According to that false list, it would be allowed to bring small box pizzas, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, chicken nuggets, among other foods and drinks.

In an official statement, Profeco clarified that at no time had it disseminated such a list and that consumers purchasing a ticket at the theater are accepting the terms and conditions of the supplier's contract. This implies that if the theater prohibits the entry of external food, users must respect that regulation or choose another establishment that does not have that restriction.

Profeco also pointed out that it is illegal to force consumers to open their backpacks or bags to check if they are carrying food with them. However, it is valid to ask to show the contents voluntarily, but never obligatorily.

It is important to emphasize that spectators are not required to purchase products inside the cinema to enter and watch the movie. Profeco reiterated that consumers have the freedom to decide whether or not to buy food at the place they visit.

Finally, Profeco issued an official statement denying the alleged list of allowed foods in movie theaters that had circulated with its logo on social media. The institution declared that this list was false and that at no time had they published such information.
