After completing his term as president of Mexico, Vicente Fox took on an activist role in favor of marijuana legalization. He became a shareholder of the company Paradise, which offers various products containing cannabis-derived compounds, such as CBD. However, recently, Paradise has been flagged by the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) due to the possible illegal marketing of products made with CBD.
In a statement, Cofepris mentioned that products such as food, candies, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and beverages containing ingredients like CBD, hemp extract, hemp oil, or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) pose a risk to public health. Vicente Fox's company is among those highlighted by this alert.
Vicente Fox increased his activism in favor of marijuana legalization since 2012, visiting countries like the Netherlands, Uruguay, and the United States to promote this cause for both recreational and medicinal purposes. In 2013, he expressed his interest in producing and marketing marijuana for therapeutic and recreational purposes in the event of legalization.
In 2019, he announced his plan to grow marijuana on his ranch in Guanajuato in order to study the plant and use it productively. Although Paradise was established in 2015 in Nuevo León, it wasn't until late 2020 that it partnered with Vicente Fox to open at least 400 stores in key tourist centers in Mexico within three years.
In June 2021, actor Roberto Palazuelos joined Vicente Fox and Paradise to market the company's products. Palazuelos expressed his excitement for this new partnership through his social media, confirming his participation as a partner in the company Paradise.
