Cofepris Alerts on Falsified Aspirin Products

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has issued an update on the counterfeiting of medications, including Cafiaspirina, Desenfriol D, and Aspirina Protec, which may be used by patients who have suffered a previous heart attack or have angina, according to information from MedlinePlus. The agency has identified new counterfeit lot numbers of these Bayer products, which poses a health risk to those who consume them, as their quality, safety, and efficacy cannot be guaranteed.

In a statement, Cofepris indicated that as counterfeit products, key aspects such as the quality of the ingredients, manufacturing conditions, handling, storage, and distribution are unknown, increasing the danger for users. In case of doubt about the authenticity of the medications, it is recommended to contact the holder of the sanitary registration to verify the identity of the products. It is also urged to report any adverse reactions or suspicions of counterfeiting to the relevant authorities.

For regular consumers of Cafiaspirina, Desenfriol, and Aspirina Protec, it is advised not to use the products with the lot numbers indicated by Cofepris and specified in the health alert. Additionally, it is important to acquire these medications only from authorized distributors validated by the holder of the sanitary registration, who must have a sanitary license and documentation supporting the legality of the purchase.

Regarding the use of Aspirin, whose active ingredient is acetylsalicylic acid, it is prescribed to relieve symptoms of various conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and other rheumatological disorders. Outside of medical prescription, it is used to reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, menstrual discomfort, arthritis, dental pain, and muscle pain.
