Journalist Carlos Jiménez reported on the death of Mónica Rodríguez, also known as "Doña Pelos" or "Piolinzote." Rodríguez was a prominent figure in the criminal gang "Los Bonitos" and was engaged in extortion and drug trafficking activities in the Iztapalapa borough. Despite being arrested four times by the SSC of CDMX, she managed to walk free on all occasions. Two weeks ago, she was shot and ultimately lost her life.
On the morning of Tuesday, February 18, the journalist clarified that the person responsible for Mónica Rodríguez's assassination was identified as Jonatahan Mercado, an ex-convict wanted by the authorities of Mexico City for the homicide of "Doña Pelos." Jiménez shared photographs of the alleged perpetrator, where he was seen lying on the ground showing signs of violence, suggesting a possible act of revenge.
After her release last September, Carlos Jiménez confirmed the death of Mónica Rodríguez on Monday, February 17, due to gunshot wounds. Her vigil took place in the streets of Iztapalapa, where family and friends expressed their sorrow over the incident through social media, sharing photographs of "Doña Pelos."
"Mónica Rodríguez, also known as Doña Pelos or Piolinzote, was bid farewell and mourned in the streets of dangerous Iztapalapa. She was part of the criminal gang Los Bonitos," detailed Jiménez. It was also reported about the death of "Doña Pelos"'s killer, identified as Jonatahan Mercado, who was killed in an apparent act of vigilante justice.
Having been arrested multiple times for crimes related to extortion and drug trafficking, Mónica Rodríguez was released in September 2024. Despite facing charges for drug possession, the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City dismissed them. She was considered a key member of "Los Bonitos," a criminal group active in the eastern part of the Mexican capital.
