Enrique Guzmán decided to break his silence regarding the controversy surrounding the painting that Diego Rivera created of Silvia Pinal. The first actress passed away at the age of 93, surrounded by her loved ones in the hospital, and was later honored at Bellas Artes, a venue that reflects her extensive career in film and television.
Following the death of the actress from the golden age of Mexican cinema, various controversies arose, especially related to her inheritance. Diego Rivera's painting became the subject of discussions, as Pepillo Origel claimed that Silvia Pinal had gifted him the work.
Enrique Guzmán expressed his displeasure with the painting that Diego Rivera created of Silvia Pinal. In response to questions from the media about the controversy, Guzmán stated that the original piece is kept in the Palacio de Bellas Artes and that what Pinal's family possesses is a copy. According to him, Silvia had donated the painting to the venue a long time ago.
Moreover, Guzmán mentioned that the work that was in the actress's home was a replica and added that he did not like it, describing it as "ugly" and arguing that it failed to capture the true beauty of Silvia Pinal. Because of this, he decided to commission another portrait from Ecuadorian painter Guayasamín, but he does not know the whereabouts of the work since, as he stated, he divorced before receiving it.
Silvia Pinal passed away on November 28, 2024, an event that shocked all of Mexico. Amid his statements, Guzmán expressed his dissatisfaction with the work and explained that he ordered a new portrait of the actress to be made.
