
Six people died in a tragic fire that occurred at a rehabilitation center in the Tlalpan borough of Mexico City. According to the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the incident took place on Vista Hermosa Street, in the Ocotla Chico neighborhood. Police officers responded to a distress call reporting several unconscious individuals.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene treated 11 individuals, of whom six were pronounced dead due to smoke inhalation. The judicial authorities have been informed to carry out the necessary proceedings. It is expected that the person in charge of the center and four others will appear before the Public Prosecutor.
In a press conference, the head of the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC), Myriam Urzúa, explained that the fire likely started in the dormitory area and spread to nearby furniture. The Mexico City Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident to clarify the causes, considering the possibility of a riot or escape attempt.
The CDMX Fire Department reported that, after controlling the fire, they are carrying out debris removal and cooling operations. The Tlalpan borough issued a statement expressing condolences for the deaths and committing to cooperate with authorities in the investigation to clarify what happened at this private center.
The fire at the rehabilitation center 'Prepared Men and Women' in the Topilejo area of Tlalpan claimed the lives of five people and left six intoxicated. The SSC indicated that the affected individuals inhaled carbon monoxide in the building in the Ocotla Chico neighborhood. Emergency services arrived at the scene after receiving the alert and attended to the affected individuals; unfortunately, five of them lost their lives.
