The Government of Mexico, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum and Secretary of Health David Kershenobich, has launched the national strategy Live Healthy, Live Happy, aimed at promoting the well-being of girls and boys from their classrooms. This initiative focuses on preventing common diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes from childhood.
David Kershenobich emphasized the importance of schools as fundamental spaces for the adoption of healthy habits that will last throughout the lives of future generations. The Live Healthy, Live Happy strategy seeks to modify eating habits and promote physical activity, forming part of the new Mexican school implemented by President Sheinbaum.
In addition to benefiting girls and boys, the program seeks to involve families and communities, ensuring its sustainability over the decades. With the aim of benefiting 12 million students, various institutions such as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Public Education, the IMSS, IMSS-Wellness Health Services, and the SNDIF will work together to turn schools into spaces for health prevention and promotion.
The Secretary of Health announced that the program includes the creation of digital school health records to register medical check-ups and collect data to assess its efficacy and effectiveness. The strategy highlights the crucial role of education in the early identification of health problems, such as visual acuity, to improve the well-being of girls and boys.
At the presentation of the strategy, governmental authorities from both federal and state levels were present, reaffirming the commitment to promote the health and well-being of younger generations in Mexico. This focus on health through education seeks to form healthy habits among students and foster self-care, with the active participation of different government agencies.
David Kershenobich called on the present students to share the importance of health with their peers and to maintain a state of well-being as a basis for optimal development. The Live Healthy, Live Happy strategy is an important step towards promoting health from childhood, involving the entire educational community in building a healthier and more prosperous future.
