Dr. Laura Cortés Sanabria: Innovator in Public Health

Dr. Laura Cortés Sanabria, current General Director of Quality and Education in Health in Mexico, leads improvements in medical care and education of health professionals.


Laura Cortés Sanabria is the current General Director of Quality and Education in Health (DGCES) of the Secretariat of Health in Mexico, in addition to being the Director of the Technical Section of Quality in the Mexican Society of Public Health (SMSP).

Before holding this position, Dr. Cortés Sanabria served as Director of Education and Research in Health at the Specialty Hospital of the National Medical Center of the West, an institution belonging to the Mexican Institute of Social Security. With training in internal medicine, she obtained both her Master's and Doctorate in Public Health Sciences from the University of Guadalajara.

Her work has focused on promoting policies and strategies that improve the quality of medical care in Mexico. As a professor at the School of Medicine of the University Center of Tonalá, she has contributed to the training of future health professionals.

Dr. Cortés Sanabria is recognized for her research and publications on topics such as chronic kidney disease, dialysis, transplantation, and economic evaluation in the field of Mexican public health. She has published numerous scientific articles, books, and chapters.

In addition to her work at the Secretariat of Health, she has been the coordinator of the Health Economics Committee of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension. As a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI-II), she has contributed to the advancement of health research in Mexico.

Laura Cortés Sanabria holds a Master's degree in Health Economics from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. Her professional career is marked by her commitment to improving medical care and training professionals in the field of health.
