Innovative 'Cuidado Placentero' Model Launched in Mexico

In an effort to address HIV challenges, Mexico introduces the 'Cuidado Placentero' model, providing integrated sexual health services in Veracruz and CDMX, enhancing care and communication for vulnerable populations.

Two organizations, Inspira Cambio, A.C. and C.A.S.A. Veracruz, in collaboration with the 'Zeroing LAC' initiative from Gilead Sciences, have announced the creation of the first Center for Pleasurable Care (CCP) in Mexico City and Veracruz. This center will offer sexual health services with a focus on combined intervention for HIV and STIs.

The Pleasurable Care model, which will start functioning in March 2025, focuses on combined prevention for HIV and STIs, representing a new way to approach sexual health care in Mexico. Aarón Rojas Cortés, director of Inspira Cambio, A.C., highlighted the importance of this innovative approach that includes care from self-care and pleasure, promoting positive outcomes.

The CCP aims to reduce the gap in access to health services for the most vulnerable and affected populations by HIV. Carlos Covarrubias, sexual health advisor and coordinator for the implementation of the model at Inspira Cambio, A.C., emphasized the creation of a trusted space from counseling for pleasurable care in all services and interventions offered by the center.

This innovative model has allowed individuals to openly express their experiences and concerns regarding their sexual health, facilitating the identification of risks and the seeking of support. The CCP will provide specialized services ranging from prevention and detection to medical care and specialized counseling, promoting informed decision-making centered around the individual needs of each person.
