Hazardous Pollutants in the Water of Quintana Roo

In recent news, it was reported that there are dangerous levels of contaminants in the water in Quintana Roo, putting public health at risk and justifying the legal actions taken by the state government. The Secretary General of Government, Cristina Torres, denied accusations of privatization of the water service and explained that there is no intention to sell or privatize water. If the concession to Aguakan is revoked, legal measures will be taken to protect the resources.

Torres mentioned that an evaluation of Aguakan's assets is being carried out within the jurisdictional processes, including the review of the company's inventories and its financial commitments. She assured workers that their investments would not be affected, as the government will take the necessary measures to protect them.

Regarding meetings with representatives of Aguakan, it was emphasized that they have been conducted legally and transparently. It was clarified that Cuitláhuac Bardán, a government advisor, participates in the discussions as part of the state's legal team and has no direct relationship with the company Aguakan.

The presence of contaminants in the water has been revealed, exceeding the limits allowed by official regulations and posing a risk to the health of the residents. Torres denied accusations of criminalization against Aguakan and explained that the concession dates back to the 1990s when it was granted to the company. A complaint has been filed for possible irregularities in the contract, indicating that payments made by Aguakan were not authorized.

The state government has reported possible crimes of money laundering and illicit operations, resulting in arrest orders against company executives. It is made clear that there is no intention to privatize the service, and investments of the workers will be protected. Analysis detected elevated levels of bacteria in the region's wastewater, highlighting the need to correct the irregularities in the concession and improve the service for the population.
