The PRI leader Pérez Sanabria denounced the lack of transparency and inadequate protection for women by the authorities, stating that aggressors are protected by their incompetence. She called for clear, monthly, and detailed figures on femicides, homicides, and gender-related crimes, as well as a public assessment of gender violence alerts and effective coordination among the three levels of government.
At a press conference, PRI deputy Xitlalic Ceja García presented a point of agreement urging the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection to publish detailed femicide figures monthly since December 2018. She also asked the Secretary of Government to coordinate with various institutions to evaluate the effectiveness of gender violence alerts. Ceja García highlighted that despite 26 alerts being issued in 24 states, there has been no significant progress in the protection of women.
Since December 2018, Mexico has recorded 5,464 femicides, more than 16,000 intentional homicides, over 20,000 negligent homicides, 1.5 million cases of domestic violence, and more than 122,000 rapes. The Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System also reports that there have been over 3.8 million emergency calls to 911 for domestic violence and more than 1.7 million for gender violence, reflecting the severe crisis of violence faced by women in the country.
In light of this situation, activist Olga Pérez Sanabria, president of the National Organization of PRI Women in the State of Mexico, demanded transparency in the figures from the federal government and effective coordination to address gender violence.
