Alfonso Obregón's Surprising Prison Experience

Mexican voice actor Alfonso Obregón, known for being the voice of Shrek, recounts his experience in prison after being detained. Upon entering Reclusorio Norte, some inmates recognized him from the news announcing his detention. Obregón recalls how, far from being assaulted, the prisoners wanted him to imitate Shrek's voice, one of his most popular characters.

After eight days in prison, Alfonso was well received by his cellmates, who asked him to speak like Shrek, Marty, or Bugs Bunny, thus creating an unexpected friendship. Despite initially feeling fear, Obregón was cared for and protected by other inmates, becoming a sort of 'hero' within the prison.

During his stay in jail, Alfonso Obregón contracted COVID-19, but he stated that the inmates were attentive to him at all times, even after his 'quarantine.' Despite the illness, the inmates continued to show support and affection towards the actor.

Once confirmed in his role as the voice of Shrek, the inmates of Reclusorio Norte committed to taking care of Obregón and ensuring his safety. Upon leaving prison, Alfonso reflected on the experience and the positive impact it had on him, expressing gratitude for the support he received from his cellmates.

In a later interview, Alfonso shared details about his detention, explaining that his lawyer omitted crucial information in his legal process, which ultimately led him to preventive detention. Despite the difficult situation, the actor acknowledged the unexpected support and the bonds of friendship that formed in jail.

Alfonso Obregón was arrested in 2024 due to allegations of sexual harassment, a situation that led him to spend about three weeks in Reclusorio Norte. Despite this, the voice of Shrek highlights the solidarity and affection received from his fellow prisoners during that challenging period.
